  • OWLS of Bath!

I have been very very busy this Spring and summer, in between commissioned work, painting an owl for #OwlsofBath and #MulberryParkCuro, called Mowlberry Beak. He's currently nesting in Combe Down off the Bradford Road outside the Curo office. It was a challenge having 4 and a half weeks to paint him but I got there, and the theme depicted on him is based on a picture I illustrated for my daughter depicting a Book tree, which is available as a print (more on that later). So there are 2 little children sitting at his feet reading books about Bath and Combe Down, and their imaginations are running through the branches, leaves and fruit of the Mulberry tree. The Mulberry tree represents both the 18th Mulberry tree orchard that used to be at Mulberry Park and the housing development built by his sponsor Curo that has replaced the ex naval base that had been built on the orchard. There are lots of things to spot on Mowlberry, from Combe Down stone miners, to Harry Patch (to link in with his owlet, Patch, painted by Combe Down Pirmary School) Ralph Allen and his legacy on Combe Down, the university nearby, the Goddess Minerva and bathing Romans, a Combe Down jogger, the naval base, Jane Austen and some references to other Bath industries and history, and of course lots of Owls...and the odd multi-coloured bat! A total joy to see him come to life and so happy to have been given the opportunity to have painted him. He is being auctioned off with other members of his flock at the charity auction at the Apex hotel on 17th October, in aid of RUH cancer and therapies centre, Bath Young Carers Centre, Roman Baths archway project and UK Little Owl Project. The auction preview Owls "Hoot Farewell" weekend is on 29-30th September and I'll be there selling prints and cards. Here are some photos of Mowlberry....

Just launched is the new website of illustrator Steve Rawlings which I've been lucky enough to have a preview of. His art is absolutely stunning, with a unique beauty of it's own. He has had many commissions throughout his career with some great clients so it's joy to see it all up there in the ether. A real visual treat.

    Here is the address :
